White Knight Black Swan First Published 1993.
Synopsis: Set in working-class South London during the 1980s, White Knight Black Swan follows “Bimbo” Jardine, a feared gang enforcer whose reputation for violence hides a deeply honourable nature. When he intervenes to protect a vulnerable man, Jardine finds himself at odds with powerful criminals, including his own employer. As murder, betrayal, and long-buried secrets emerge, he must choose between loyalty and doing what is right. At its heart, the novel is a story of courage, redemption, and a good man struggling to maintain his principles in a brutal world.
Publication: White Knight Black Swan was first published in 1993 under the pseudonym Ross Harding. David Gemmell used the pen name because the novel was a crime thriller rather than the heroic fantasy for which he was best known. The story drew upon his experiences as a journalist and former nightclub bouncer in London. It remained his only non-fantasy novel published during his lifetime. It is worth noting that Gemmell also wrote another non-fantasy crime novel, Rhyming Rings. However, it was not published during his lifetime and appeared posthumously after his death.
