Ravenheart: First Published 2001.
Synopsis: Set more than eight hundred years after the legendary victories of Connavar and Bane, in a time when the Rigante people have lost much of their former strength and identity. Under the rule of the Varlish, the old clan traditions and freedoms have slowly been eroded, leaving only fragments of the once-proud Rigante culture alive in the north. The story follows Kaelin Ring, a young clansman whose hatred of the Varlish grows after suffering under their oppression. Fleeing to the northern lands where the old ways still survive, Kaelin becomes a rebel leader feared by the occupiers and known throughout the Highlands as Ravenheart. As resistance against the Varlish begins to rise, Kaelin’s actions awaken hope among a people long beaten down by centuries of conquest. Alongside Kaelin stands Jaim Grymauch, a larger-than-life warrior who embodies the spirit and traditions of the old Rigante clans. Though known for his love of battle, cattle raids, and women, Jaim is also a man of deep loyalty and courage. When those he loves are threatened, he is drawn into a struggle that will reignite the pride, honour, and fighting spirit the Rigante believed had been lost forever. Filled with fierce battles, memorable characters, and themes of resistance, loyalty, and sacrifice, the story explores the enduring strength of a people determined to reclaim their identity and freedom.
